03/29/2002 Hsker D : The old and the new
The band's sound had been a surprise in the unlikely American midwest scene of the early 80's. The "cult" tag has been placed on Hüsker Düsince even a major-label signing in 1986 couldn't even break a golden status in sales.
The humourous aspect of this band's history is the fact that an American "alternative" band's main attire was a Hüsker Düt-shirt including Indigo Girl's Amy Ray or the pre-teen world of Old Skull.
On the March 29, 2002 show, I am featuring the double album of Zen Arcade as it has made a big impact on many contemporary bands and singer/guitarist Bob Mould has his new powerful creation Modulate.
Zen Arcade was released in 1984 on the then-relatively young SST Records. There is no uniform sound to the entire set of 20 songs as the trio create more melodies than the average hardcore band and acoustic sounds without losing any edge.
This sound carries over to the subsequent albums that Hüsker Düreleased through the next three years. Singer Bob Mould manages to bring this sonic power to his 1990 LP Black Sheets Of Rain and the new Modulate. WEVL is currently playing tracks from this CD. Keep listening...
